BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis team travels West for three matches in California during the Blazers' spring break week.
UAB will play those three matches over a stretch of four days, starting Sunday with a 2 p.m. PT contest against Conference USA foe Southern Miss in Northridge, Calif. The Blazers then visit UC Santa Barbara Tuesday before heading back to Cal State Northridge Wednesday to wrap up their trip.
UAB is 3-3 on the season after a 4-3 win this past Tuesday over Mercer in Birmingham. Evelien Strijker, Brittany DeFelice and Jenny Cape each earned singles wins against the Bears, and UAB also won the doubles point.
The Blazers have won three consecutive dual matches against Southern Miss, dating back to the 2006 spring season. Back in January, UAB and Southern Miss matched up at seven positions in the flighted Auburn Winter Invitational with the Blazers winning all seven matches.
Southern Miss is 0-5 this spring after a 4-3 loss this past Tuesday to Southeastern Louisiana. UC Santa Barbara is 7-3 and will play Sunday against San Francisco before its Tuesday match with UAB. Cal State Northridge is 3-8 and will play Southern Miss Monday before its match Wednesday with UAB.
