I was a little unsure when Tyson, our "media relations guy", asked me to do a blog. I wasn't sure what I would say or if I was qualified to be the spokes person of the team. That being said, I will do my best to give a little insight into our UAB baseball family.
We are well into the season and I don't really know how we feel about our season. We have played well at times and we have played not so well at times. Coach Shoop just recently sent out a game summary of all our games up to this point and there were a lot of "give-away" games. We are 14 and 10 right now, but it could easily be 20 and 4 or 19 and 5, but the good news is that we are starting to play well and we know we are good enough to win.
The Alabama game at Regions Park was interesting to say the least. I think the less than decent weather kept most fans at home. The rain ultimately prevented us from finishing the game, but definitely made things interesting. We were ahead 2-1 going into the 5th inning. Alabama tied the game in the top of that inning just in time for the rain to pull us off the field. There was misunderstanding on the rules as to how that would play out and we had to wait a half hour for the Supreme Court (Coach Shoop and Coach Wells) to figure out what to do. As of now, they are working on a make-up date.
All in all, it has been a decent start to the 2009 season. Personally, I think we are much better than a 14 and 10 team, but we are still learning as a program how to play well consistently. We are looking forward to a good East Carolina team coming in for the weekend. It should be a good series between the top two offenses in the conference.
