PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The UAB baseball team is set to take on Harvard Friday night at 6:30 p.m. CT in Pensacola, Fla. The Blazers and Crimson will be playing at Pensacola Junior College's Pirate Field.
Friday's game is the first of a scheduled four-game weekend series. The teams were slated to meet at Young Memorial Field in Birmingham, but inclement weather forced a change in location. In addition to Friday's game, UAB and Harvard are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday at Noon CT and single game Sunday at Noon CT.
UAB enters the series at 6-6 on the season after winning a pair of midweek games over UT Martin. The Blazers pounded out 13 hits and scored 13 runs in each game, picking up a 13-5 victory Tuesday and a 13-2 win Wednesday.
Brint Hardy has been on a tear for UAB, hitting .565 over the past six games to raise his season batting average to a team-best .378. He has also stolen 13 bases through 12 games for a Blazer squad that owns 36 steals as a team in 38 attempts. Cody McMurry continues to lead UAB in the power categories with three home runs and 16 RBI.
Digger Towe enters the weekend as one of UAB's hottest hitters. Over the past three games, Towe is hitting .600 with two home runs and 10 RBI. He tallied eight combined RBI in the two-game midweek series with UT Martin.
UAB is slated to start sophomore left-hander Shay Crawford on the mound Friday night. Crawford is 1-1 and will be making his fourth start of the year. Harvard will send sophomore right-hander Daniel Berardo to the mound. Berardo allowed just one earned run but took the loss in his only start of the year.
The Crimson enter the series at 1-3 with just one weekend of action under their belt. Harvard opened last weekend with four games at Jacksonville State, losing the first three in close contests and earning a 10-3 win in Sunday's finale.
Offensively, Taylor Meehan and Sean O'Hara are hitting .400 for Harvard through four games. Tom Stack-Babich homered and drove in seven runs in last weekend's series with Jacksonville State.
