PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The UAB baseball team clubbed a season-high five home runs Friday night, including the first two career homers for Andrew Manning, as the Blazers continued to produce offensively in a 16-4 win over Harvard.
Digger Towe, Cody McMurry and Luke Stewart also homered for UAB. It marked the most home runs in a single game for the Blazers since they hit six at Troy on May 8, 2007. Twice in 2008 UAB tallied four home runs in a game.
UAB improved to 7-6 on the season with its third straight win. The Blazers have now won four of their past five games. Harvard fell to 1-4 with the loss.
Shay Crawford earned his second win on the mound for UAB. Crawford surrendered four runs on five hits in the fourth inning but held the Crimson scoreless on just one hit in his other five innings combined. The sophomore left-hander struck out a career-high eight batters in 6.0 innings of work.
Friday's game was moved to Pensacola Junior College in Pensacola, Fla., because of inclement weather in the Birmingham area. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday. The action is slated to begin a 11 a.m. CT, again in Pensacola.
