Blazer Tennis Team Wins Again Out West

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. ----- The UAB men's tennis team won for the second day in a row and posted its fourth victory in the last five outings Thursday as the Blazers defeated San Francisco, 4-3.
UAB senior Brian Ly provided the clinching victory for his team with his win at No. 3 singles. Ly took a 7-5, 6-4 decision over USF's Michael Carreno.
The Blazers (5-6), who took a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point, also captured singles wins at No. 2 singles (Alex Emery) and at the No. 4 position (Daniel Moser). Emery was a 6-4, 7-6 winner in his No. 2 match over Asaf Cohen while Moser won over the Dons' Mitch del Rosario, 7-5, 6-1.
San Francisco claimed its three wins at No. 1, 5 and 6 singles. Tommy Tu beat UAB's Slawomir Szeremeta at No. 1, 6-3, 6-3. At No. 5 singles, Rainer Nachbauer defeated the Blazers' Thomas Petrich, 7-6, 6-3. USF's Einar Hart downed the Blazers' Tyrone Ewels at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8).
The Blazers grabbed the doubles point for the second match in a row and it again turned out to be pivotal in the final result.
UAB won at No. 2 and 3 doubles to win the point. Ly and Emery were 8-4 winners at No. 2 over del Rosario and Carreno while Ewels and Moser won by the same score at No. 3 doubles. The Dons got the win at No. 1 doubles as Cohen and Tu defeated the Blazer duo of Dennis Ehrlich and Slawomir Szeremeta.
After arriving Monday night and then playing three matches in the past three days, UAB will take Friday off before concluding the west coast trip Saturday with a dual match at Santa Clara.
