Amanda Peterson Named To C-USA All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB women's basketball sophomore guard Amanda Peterson has been named to the 2009 Conference USA Women's Basketball All-Academic Team, announced the league office on Friday. Peterson is the lone sophomore on the squad and is joined by three seniors and one junior.
Peterson is an exercise science major with a 3.76 grade point average. She has been listed on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, as well as being honored with the Academic Medal of Honor, during each of her two seasons at UAB. In addition, she was also named to UAB's Dean's List and earned Presidential Honors at the conclusion of the 2007-08 school year.
On the court, Peterson is second on the team with 11.8 ppg overall, while also adding 3.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest. She leads UAB and C-USA, as well as ranking among the top in the nation, in three-point baskets per game at 2.5. Peterson has made 69 treys this season, which is the third most three's made in a single season in Blazer history.
Also making the league's All-Academic team are Tara Watts (Rice), Kendra Reed (Southern Miss), Ashley Langford (Tulane) and Megan Valicevic (Tulane). Watts and Reed are repeat selections from last year.
UAB will play at UCF on Sunday in its final regular season game. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET in Orlando, Fla. and the game will be televised live on CBS College Sports.
The C-USA Women's Basketball Championship will begin on Thursday, March 5 at Fogelman Arena on the campus of Tulane University.
