Blazers Travel For Sunday Game At SMU

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team will hit the road for a Sunday Conference USA contest at SMU. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT at Moody Coliseum in Dallas, Texas. The Blazers will be searching for their first victory over the Mustangs in Dallas, having never won in Moody Coliseum before.
Sunday will mark the fifth meeting between UAB and SMU all-time, with each team winning two games in the series. The Mustangs captured an 84-51 victory over the Blazers a season ago in Birmingham. UAB's last victory over SMU was a 71-68 win on Jan. 7, 2007 at Bartow Arena.
UAB enters the game with a 10-14 overall record that includes a 5-6 mark in C-USA play. The Blazers are coming off a 72-63 win over Tulsa this past Thursday and will look to move to .500 in the league when they face the Mustangs.
Senior guard Britney Jones continues to lead the Blazers in many facets of the game, including points (18.3), assists (3.6) and steals (2.1). Jones' 18.3 ppg ranks first in the conference overall, while her 21.1 ppg against league opponents also leads C-USA.
Sophomore guard Amanda Peterson is adding 11.8 ppg for UAB this season and serves as the Blazers' top three-point threat. Peterson has already racked up 62 treys this season and is coming off a career-high night where she went 8-of-16 from beyond the arc for a career-best 28 points in the win over Tulsa.
SMU has a 15-9 overall record coming into Sunday's matchup, including an 8-3 mark in league games. The Mustangs' most-recent outing resulted in a 71-57 road win at Memphis this past Thursday.
Junior forward Brittany Gilliam paces SMU with 14.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.7 steals per outing. Junior forward Delisha Wills is the other Mustang that is averaging double figures this season, contributing 12.3 ppg on 49.2 percent shooting.
