BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB women's basketball head coach Audra Smith has signed two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Destiny Samuels of Birmingham, Ala., and Karisma Chapman of Calumet City, Ill., will join the Blazers in 2010-11.
Samuels is a 6-2 center from Ramsay High School. She averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds a game during her junior campaign. Samuels earned second-team all-state honors last season and also played in the Class 4A North-South All-Star game.
Chapman is a 5-11 forward from T. F. North High School. She averaged 13.1 points and 7.4 rebounds a game during her junior year before an injury cut her season short. Chapman earned Northwest Indiana Times all-area honors after her freshman and sophomore seasons, in addition to first-team All-SICA (South Inter-Conference Association) accolades.
