UAB Concludes Non-Conference Play at Austin Peay

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team returns from the holiday break for its non-conference finale against the Austin Peay Lady Govs on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Dave Aaron Arena in Clarksville, Tenn.
The two teams will meet for the 10th time, with the Blazers owning a 7-2 advantage in the series. After winning the first seven in a row against the Lady Govs, UAB has dropped the last two contests. The last time the two teams met was in January of 2004 in Clarksville, with Austin Peay earning a 70-67 win. Prior to that, the teams had met twice in Tennessee, in February of 1991 and 1992, with UAB winning both contests. Overall, the Blazers are 2-1 when playing at Austin Peay.
UAB is coming off a 59-46 victory over UT Arlington at the St. John's-Chartwells Holiday Classic on Dec. 20. The Blazers are led by freshman guard Jala Harris with 13.3 points and 3.4 assists a game. Senior forward Tamika Dukes has maintained her consistency throughout non-conference play, with 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds a game.
Although the Lady Govs have dropped their last four in a row, the last two losses have come at the hands of ranked opponents in No. 14 Xavier and No. 19 Pittsburgh. Junior Ashley Herring leads the way for Austin Peay with 12.6 points a game, while senior Nicole Jamen is the team's top rebounder with 7.3 boards a game.
