BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB senior midfielder Two-Boys Gumede was tabbed by Soccer America as a second team MVP performer this season. Soccer America's MVPs were introduced in 1976 and honor the players who have had the biggest impact on their team's success, regardless of position.
Gumede was one of just two Conference USA players to earn the honor, as Tulsa's Ashley McInnes was selected as a first team MVP honoree.
Gumede becomes the third Blazer to earn the accolade, joining Flavio Monteiro (1999 Freshman Most Valuable Team) and Peter Byaruhanga (1999 League Most Valuable Player) as the only UAB players to achieve the feat.
This past season, Gumede finished with four goals, a team-high five assists and 13 points. He was selected as a second-team NSCAA All-American and was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year.
The two-time C-USA Player of the Week finished his UAB career with 18 assists, which ranks eighth in school history, to go along with 11 career goals. He is a four-year all-conference honoree and a two-time first team all-region recipient.
