ATHENS, Ga. -- The No. 13 Georgia Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 22-point halftime lead and went on to post a 71-42 win over the UAB Blazers on Tuesday night at Stegeman Coliseum.
UAB senior forward Tamika Dukes collected her sixth double-digit scoring game of the season, leading UAB (2-5) with 12 points.
"Going up against a good team like Georgia, we knew we had to put it all on the line and execute," UAB head coach Audra Smith said. "Even when we were down late in the game, we continued to battle, and that's what we wanted."
The Lady Bulldogs (7-0) got off to a quick start, opening the game with a 24-4 run. Georgia junior forward Porsha Phillips led the way with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
UAB freshman guard Nakia McDaniel added her first collegiate points with eight, while freshman guard Amber Jones contributed nine. McDaniel provided a spark in the second half, scoring all of her points, including a pair of three-pointers, after the break.
Despite the halftime deficit, the Blazers showed resiliency in the second half. UAB had six steals in the second compared to one in the first, with two each from freshman guard Jala Harris and sophomore forward TaRonda Randall. The Green and Gold also forced 15 turnovers in the latter period while turning the ball over only seven times.
UAB returns home on Saturday to host Mississippi Valley State. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
