Woszczynski Named UAB Student-Athlete Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Carl Woszczynski, a redshirt sophomore goalkeeper for the Blazer men's soccer team, has been named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
Woszczynski has turned in one of the top seasons by a goalkeeper in Conference USA. The league's two-time defensive player of the week ranks first in the conference in goals-against average (0.76), first in shutouts (7) and second in save percentage (.818).
The Columbus, Ind., product has also been impressive in the classroom. Woszczynski carries a 3.24 overall GPA as a mechanical engineering major. He was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll in both 2007-08 and 2008-09.
Woszczynski has helped UAB to a 12-3-1 overall record and a first-place tie in the C-USA standings at 5-1-1 in league play. The Blazers are currently ranked No. 14 in the latest TopDrawerSoccer.com poll.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:35 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
The UAB men's soccer team will play its final regular-season game Saturday at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) at Marshall. With a win, the Blazers can clinch at least a share of their third C-USA title in program history and their first since 1999.
