UAB Preps for Contest at Georgia

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team heads to Georgia to face the Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday at 6 p.m. (CT) at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga. The two teams will meet for the fourth time in history, as Georgia leads the series, 2-1. The last time the Blazers traveled to Georgia in 1999, the Lady Bulldogs squeaked out a 76-75 overtime victory.
UAB is coming off a weekend split, defeating Norfolk State 55-54, before falling to North Texas, 76-63, in the UAB Thanksgiving Classic. Freshman guard Jala Harris led the way in both contests, scoring 17 and 18 points, respectively. Harris leads the team with 13.3 points a game, while senior forward Tamika Dukes ranks second on the team with 12.7 points a game. Dukes leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.7 a game.
The Lady Bulldogs have won six in a row to open the season. Georgia rolled over Southern Miss in their last outing with an 84-55 win. The Lady Bulldogs have a trio of players averaging double figures, led by Jasmine James with 17.5. James also leads the team shooting 41.7 percent from behind the arc. Ashley Houts is second on the team with 15.8 points a game, while Porsha Phillips is averaging 10.3 and leads the team with 8.2 rebounds a game.
Georgia has won the last two meetings between the teams. Last year, the Lady Bulldogs claimed a 73-49 win. Before the 1999 meeting, the two teams last met in 1981 when the Blazers captured an 82-70 win.
