BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB volleyball team will play its final non-conference match of the season Tuesday when it travels to Troy for a 7 p.m. CT first serve against the Trojans.
UAB (13-14) is coming off a split of two Conference USA matches over the weekend. The Blazers earned a 3-1 win Friday night over visiting UTEP before falling to league-leading Southern Miss, 3-2, in a hard-fought match Sunday at Bartow Arena.
Despite the loss to Southern Miss, several UAB players turned in strong individual performances, including Patty Paniagua, who earned Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors after a 12-kill, 11-block double-double against the Golden Eagles. Libero Heather Thomas set a career-high with 36 digs, while Jordan McDonald recorded her third straight double-double for the Blazers with 16 kills and 11 digs.
UAB has five regular-season matches remaining, and the Troy contest kicks off a stretch of three straight on the road for the Blazers, who will then travel this weekend for league matches at Marshall and East Carolina.
Troy (11-15) steps out of Sun Belt Conference play looking to snap a four-match losing streak. The Trojans were swept in two matches on the road over the weekend at Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee.
Meghan Gilroy has accounted for much of the Trojans' offensive attack as she enters Tuesday's contest with a team-best 4.25 kills-per-set average and a .320 attack percentage. Defensively, four Troy players are averaging more than two digs per frame, led by Lizzie Clough at 2.84.
Tuesday's match was originally slated for Nov. 10 but was rescheduled several weeks ago.
UAB holds a 20-5 advantage in the all-time series with Troy. The teams met last season as part of the UAB/Samford Invitational with the Blazers earning a 3-0 sweep.
