UAB Visits Florida to Take on Gators

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team hits the road Tuesday, traveling to Gainesville, Fla. for a contest against the Florida Gators. The two teams will square off at 3:30 p.m. (CT) at the O'Connell Center.
The two teams met last year in a thriller at Bartow Arena, as the Gators rallied late and edged the Blazers, 77-75. Tuesday's contest marks the fourth meeting overall and the first in Florida since 1983.
Both teams enter the game having lost two straight to challenging foes, with the Gators falling to No. 13/10 Florida State, 66-62, and at No. 25 Pittsburgh, 81-58. After defeating Alcorn State, UAB dropped an 88-55 decision at No. 3 Ohio State and a 70-54 outcome to Miami (Fla.).
UAB is led by senior forward Tamika Dukes, averaging team-bests of 14.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Freshman Jala Harris is contributing 12.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and has dished a team-high 10 assists.
Sophomore Jordan Jones leads the Gators in scoring with 14.7 points per game, while dishing 5.0 assists. Senior Sharielle Smith has been the team's leading on the boards, collecting 8.3 rebounds to go along with 12.3 points per outing.
