UAB Welcomes Miami to Bartow Arena

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's basketball team will host the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bartow Arena. The Blazers (1-1) and Hurricanes (3-0) will meet for the third time in history and first time since 1981.
UAB owns a 2-0 advantage in the series, having defeated Miami in 1980 and 1981. Although the two teams played in Birmingham in 1980, Saturday's contest will be the Canes' first trip to Bartow Arena, as the previous matchup was played in Bell Gym.
The Blazers are led by senior forward Tamika Dukes, averaging 15.5 points a game. Dukes had a career-high 20 in UAB's loss to No. 3/3 Ohio State and also scored double-figures against Alcorn State. She also leads the team with 8.0 rebounds a game and is a perfect 7-7 from the stripe.
Miami is led by sophomore guard Riquna Williams with 31.0 points a game. Williams earned ACC Player of the Week honors after back-to-back games with more than 30 points. Senior forward Diane Barnes has also been a power for the Canes, with a pair of double-doubles.
UAB is 1-0 at home, while Miami is 2-0 on the road this season.
Wristbands will be given to the first 50 students who attend the women's basketball game. Each student that gets a wristbands will be able to sit on the first three rows of sections 110 and 112 in the student section for the men's basketball game at 7 p.m. against Georgia.
