Harris Earns C-USA Freshman of the Week Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB freshman guard Jala Harris earned Conference USA Freshman of the Week honors for her outstanding performance in the Blazers' season-opening 76-62 win against Alcorn State. In her collegiate debut, Harris led all-scorers with 25 points and also grabbed nine rebounds.
Harris was key to UAB's second-half comeback against the Lady Braves. The Madison, Ala., native sparked a 12-3 run three minutes into the second half, giving the Blazers' their first lead of the contest since the opening bucket. She scored 23 of her 25 points in the second frame.
The freshman guard also added four assists and a pair of steals in her first outing in the Green and Gold.
Harris and the Blazers will take on the No. 3/3 Ohio State Buckeyes in their first road test of the season on Tuesday. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. (CT).
