Laura McCalla Named UAB Student-Athlete Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Sophomore forward/midfielder Laura McCalla of the Blazer women's soccer team has been selected as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
McCalla started all 21 games for UAB this fall and tied for the team lead with 12 points on four goals and four assists. She finished with a team-high 23 shots on goal while helping the Blazers to a record of 11-7-3 (5-4-2 C-USA).
McCalla played a large role in UAB spending much of the season ranked in the Central Region and climbing as high as No. 24 in the nation at one point.
In the classroom, McCalla has maintained a 3.18 GPA as an industrial distribution major. The Fayetteville, Ga., native earned a spot on last year's Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll as a freshman.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:35 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
The UAB women's soccer season came to an end this past Friday with a 1-0 loss to ninth-ranked UCF in the semifinals of the Conference USA tournament.
