BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- With rain overnight and throughout the morning in the Birmingham area, the UAB football team moved its practice Tuesday indoors to Wallace Gym on campus.
The Blazer offense worked out for one hour followed by the defense for another hour as UAB prepared for its upcoming game at Memphis. The Blazers and Tigers will meet Saturday at Noon CT at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in the annual "Battle for the Bones."
"I'm sure we got something out of (the practice) as far as getting familiar with what Memphis does," UAB head coach Neil Callaway said. "But it does put a damper on things as far as preparation and not getting to work against it full speed."
UAB (4-5, 3-2 C-USA) is coming off a 56-29 win over Florida Atlantic in which the Blazers piled up 622 yards of offense, the third highest total in program history, and scored touchdowns on their first eight possessions. Quarterback Joe Webb accounted for 415 total yards (292 passing and 123 rushing) and six total touchdowns (four passing and two rushing) in the win.
Against Memphis (2-7, 1-4 C-USA), the Blazers will face a team that Callaway believes has more talent than its record indicates. The Tigers are coming off their third consecutive loss after a 56-28 defeat at Tennessee in non-conference action this past Saturday.
"I just think we have to be ready to play, play as hard as we can play, not make mistakes and let everything else take care of itself," Callaway said. "We're not worried about what they're doing; we're worried about what we're doing and how we do it."
Saturday's game will be televised live by CSS. The game will be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network and can be heard in the Birmingham area on flagship station WUHT-FM 107.7 with David Crane (play-by-play) and Jake Arians (color) on the call. The pregame show will begin 90 minutes prior to kickoff.
