Hey Blazer Fans!
Well, this past week was another great week for UAB Men's Soccer, as we were able to move one game closer to a regular season C-USA Championship!
Finally, for maybe the second time all year, we were able to get a full week of good training in since the weather was finally nice, and since we didn't have a mid-week game. Tuesday and Wednesday are always great sessions on weeks like these, and are spent playing high quality, high intensity small-sided games. Thursday, we worked on a bit more tactical things to get ready for our opponent on Saturday, UCF. Friday is more of the same, with some restarts and set pieces thrown in to make sure we are sharp both offensively and defensively on any dead ball scenarios.
Friday, after practice, we had a nice catered meal in the Champions' Club room in Bartow Arena to make sure we were all eating right the night before the biggest game of the year. After this, we all headed home to get rest for the big game the next day. Once Saturday came around, everyone was extremely focused. We were in second place in the C-USA standings, only trailing Marshall by one point. We knew that we MUST pick up three points against UCF or our title hopes would most likely go down the drain. At pre-game meal at Jason's Deli, everyone was very excited to just get out on the field and play, but we still had a few more hours to wait.
Once the game kicked off, it was obvious that we were going to have the better part of the play, and as long as we finished our chances, we would pick up the win. About halfway through the first half, junior Michal Mravec scored a great one-time goal with his left foot from about 22 yards out! We took that one nil lead into halftime feeling confident, but knowing the game was not yet over. The second half brought more of the same, as our defense remained rock solid, only allowing six shots the whole game. Senior Jonah Stewart also scored the first goal of his career to give us the 2-0 win over UCF!
We, again, have the biggest game of the year coming up on Wednesday against South Carolina. This is our last regular season home game, so therefore, it will be Senior Night. It will be the last regular season game our seven seniors get to play at home in front of our home crowd, so PLEASE come out and support them! This is also a HUGE game for the C-USA Regular Season Championship race. We must get 3 points out of the game to stay atop the C-USA table. The game kicks off at 7PM, with free admission for students. There is also a pre-game tailgate with FREE FOOD for all students at 6PM! Again, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come out and support our senior class as they play their last regular season game at West Campus Field!
See you on Wednesday!
