UAB Volleyball Falls Friday Night At Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The UAB volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-15) loss Friday night at Tulane in Conference USA action.
With the defeat, the Blazers fall to 11-13 (4-5 C-USA), while Tulane improves to 13-6 (8-2 C-USA).
Andrea Lalic, Sam Serley and Patty Paniagua tallied five kills apiece to lead UAB offensively, while Heather Thomas and Alison Woods paced the Blazers defensively with eight digs each.
Tulane's Visnja Djurdjevic led all players with 10 kills and tied with teammate Jenn Miller for match-high honors with 11 digs on her way to a double-double. Green Wave setter Rachel Lindelow finished with a match-best 29 assists.
UAB played even with Tulane for much of the first two sets, but the Green Wave strung points together late to pull away in each frame.
In the opening set, the Blazers were within two points at 18-16 before Tulane closed by winning seven of the final nine points. In the second frame, the teams were tied as late as 16-16 before a 9-2 Tulane run sent UAB to the intermission trailing by two sets.
In the third frame, UAB held an early lead at 6-3, but Tulane rattled off five of the next six points to take an 8-7 lead and never trailed again. The Green Wave gradually opened up a double-digit lead on its way to closing out the match.
Tulane hit .238 for the night as a team, while UAB managed just a .011 attack percentage.
Woods and MacKenzie Wilson both saw time at setter for the Blazers and finished with 14 and seven assists, respectively. Serley and Michelle Uzoh tallied three blocks apiece for UAB, while Tulane's Marija Milosavljevic led all players with six blocks.
UAB returns to action Sunday with another conference road match at UTEP. First serve is set for Noon MT (1 p.m. CT) in El Paso, Texas.
