Hey Blazer Fans!
Sorry I didn't write a blog last week, but I was very busy and a bit behind with some school work, so I had to catch up. As most of you probably already know, we had a couple VERY good games, and one VERY bad game.
Two weeks ago, we had two of the best, most intense training sessions of the year. Everyone was giving their all and playing extremely well. This obviously paid off, as we took on FIU on Saturday and beat them 7-1!!! A number of different players scored, headlined by freshman Kofi Gyawu's first career hat-trick at UAB!!! This feat also got him named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week. We didn't have much time to celebrate this win though, because we had Memphis coming up on Wednesday.
The weather wasn't quite as nice this past week, and we were forced to train in mud and rain, and even forced indoors a day or two. We didn't have as good of a preparation for Memphis, but this is always a game that everybody gets very excited to battle in. After dominating much of the match, we were able to break through, with senior captain Dean Sorrell getting his first goal of the year! His goal would prove to be all we needed as we beat Memphis 1-0.
Now that those two games were out of the way, the game that everyone really wanted to play was next...Tulsa. No player on UAB's current roster has ever beaten Tulsa. They have knocked us out of the C-USA Tournament in each of the last two years. If that isn't enough motivation to come out and play, then I don't know what is. Unfortunately for us, once the game kicked off, just about everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Error after error led to a 5-1 loss...the worst loss and embarrassment that most of us have ever suffered. All we can hope for now is that we see Tulsa in the C-USA Tournament for the third year in a row and are able to finally get our redemption...
Fortunately, we are still in FIRST PLACE in the C-USA Regular Season Standings, and still have a chance to become Regular Season Champions!
Well fans, we have two HUGE home C-USA games coming up this week and next. First off, we host UCF on Saturday, October 24th at 7PM. As always, admission is free for students, with free food for students at 6PM at the tailgate. After you come cheer us on to victory in that game, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come out on Wednesday, October 28th for UAB Men's Soccer Senior Night! We will take on C-USA rival South Carolina at 7PM, and it will be your last chance to cheer on this year's senior class! Again, there will be free food at 6PM. Please come out and support us in both of these crucial C-USA matchups, as they will determine our fate in the C-USA Tournament, and could make us C-USA Regular Season Champions!!! See you at West Campus Field!
