TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Tulsa's Jerome Jordan hit a four-footer at the buzzer to lift the Golden Hurricane to a 75-74 Conference USA victory over UAB Wednesday night. The Blazers led Tulsa for a majority of the contest, including an 11-point lead early in the second half, but could not hold off the Golden Hurricane down the stretch.
"This is a very disappointing loss," UAB head coach Mike Davis said. "We played well and I am proud of the way our guys continued to fight through adversity. We just have to be able to bounce back from this one because we have another tough road game on Saturday at Marshall."
UAB (13-8, 3-3 Conference USA) led 74-73 with 14 seconds left after Robert Vaden made one of two free throws.
Ray Reese inbounded to Jordan just outside the paint, where he spun around UAB's Howard Crawford and put up the shot, which bounced on the rim before falling through.
Jordan finished with 25 points, six rebounds, three assists and four blocks for Tulsa. Justin Hurtt added 11 points.
Paul Delaney III led the Blazers with 21 points, while Vaden and Crawford each scored 14. Lawrence Kinnard added 12 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
UAB led 40-36 at halftime and expanded the advantage to 49-38 early in the second half.
The Golden Hurricane clawed its way back into the game, and a hook by Jordan knotted the score at 71 with 1:26 to play.
UAB outrebounded Tulsa, which entered the game as the top rebounding team in the conference, 31-23, including a 12-4 advantage on the offensive boards.
The Blazers will be on the road again this weekend when they travel to Huntington, W.Va. to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd Saturday. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) and will be televised live on CSS.
