UAB Continues Road Schedule With Games At Marshall, East Carolina

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team will continue its string of road games with a pair of Conference USA contests at Marshall and East Carolina. The Blazers will take on the Thundering Herd on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET in Huntington, W. Va.
UAB will follow with a game at East Carolina on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET in Greenville, N.C.
Thursday's matchup between UAB and Marshall will be the ninth meeting between the two programs, with the all-time series tied at 4-4. The two schools met three times last season, with the Blazers winning both regular-season games and the Thundering Herd picking up a 71-69 overtime win in the C-USA tournament.
UAB enters Thursday's game with a 7-11 overall record that includes a 2-3 mark in C-USA. The Blazers are coming off a road win at Rice last Sunday, 69-68.
Senior guard Britney Jones is UAB's leading scorer with 17.2 ppg this season, including 15 double-digit scoring games and three 20-plus point efforts. Jones' 17.2 ppg ranks first in C-USA overall, while her 20.8 ppg against league opponents leads the conference as well. In addition, Jones is contributing 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.2 assists per game for the Blazers.
Sophomore guard Amanda Peterson is chipping in 12.4 ppg, led by her stellar three-point shooting with 48 treys this season. She is first in C-USA and 24th in the nation in three-point baskets per game (2.7).
Junior guard Fatiha Salaam is the third Blazer averaging double figures with 11.2 ppg. Salaam is shooting 38.0 percent from the field and 40.4 percent from beyond the arc this season. Junior forward Tamika Dukes paces UAB on the boards with 7.8 rpg along with 8.5 ppg.
Marshall comes into the game with a 10-7 record, including a 3-1 mark in league play that has it in a six-way tie for first place in C-USA. The Thundering Herd won its last outing, 85-83, over East Carolina last Sunday.
Sophomore forward Tynikki Cross leads Marshall with 13.2 ppg, but is averaging 8.3 ppg in conference games. Junior guard Chantelle Handy is scoring 11.2 ppg overall, but leads the team with 13.5 ppg against the league. In addition, Handy paces the Thundering Herd with 6.2 rpg.
East Carolina has an overall record of 10-7 and a conference record of 1-3. After winning their league opener over Marshall on Jan. 3, the Pirates have lost three straight, including a rematch at Marshall this past Sunday.
LaCoya Terry and Jasmine Young are both averaging double-digit scoring this season for East Carolina. Terry is second in the league behind UAB's Jones with 17.1 ppg overall, while scoring 16.0 ppg in C-USA contests.
Young is adding 10.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and a team-best 5.6 assists per game. Young's 5.6 apg ranks first in the conference and 18th in the nation.
