Blazers Open Conference USA Slate By Hosting UCF, Southern Miss

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team will begin its Conference USA schedule this weekend with a pair of home games against UCF and Southern Miss. The Blazers will host UCF Friday evening at 7 p.m. CT, followed by a match versus Southern Miss Sunday at 2 p.m. Both games will be held at West Campus Field.
UAB, led by 13th-year head coach Paul Harbin, enters the weekend with an overall record of 2-6, including a 2-1 mark in home games.
The Blazers are led on the field by junior forward Danya Barsalona, who paces the team with seven points on three goals and an assist. Freshmen Tiffini Turpin and Laura McCalla have scored one goal each this season for UAB.
UCF is currently ranked eighth in the Southeast Region and is receiving votes in the national polls by SoccerBuzz with a 5-2-1 overall record. The Knights are led by 10th-year head coach Amanda Cromwell,
Becca Thomas has been UCF's top offensive performer this season, pacing the Knights with four goals and eight points. Yvonne George has added two goals and three assists to the Knights' efforts on the year.
Scott Ebke is in his first season at the helm of Southern Miss' women's soccer program and has led his team to a 4-3-1 record thus far.
Sarah McFadden has tallied a team-high eight points on three goals and two assists for the Golden Eagles. Obafemi Alao is close behind with three goals for six points on the year.
