BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Derita Ratcliffe, the Athletics Director at Kentucky State University since 2005, has been named Senior Associate Athletics Director at UAB, according to an announcement Thursday by Blazers' AD Brian Mackin.
Ratcliffe, who will start her new position at UAB on October 1, will also serve as UAB's Senior Woman Administrator.
"When we began the search to fill this position, I had two priorities," said Mackin. "One was to find someone with experience, and the other was to find someone who would fit within the chemistry of our deparment. I am confident that Derita provides both of those and we are extremely excited to have her joining our program."
Ratcliffe was hired as KSU's Athletics Director in January, 2005. Prior to that, she was Associate AD for Administration and Compliance/SWA at Eastern Kentucky from 1999-2005. She also did a five-year stint at Virginia Tech, where she ultimately served as Assistant AD of Student Life.
"From my perspective, I feel like this (opportunity at UAB) is the right place, right time and the right fit," said Ratcliffe. "I am looking forward to being a part of Brian's team and being a part of history. I told Dr. (Carol) Garrison when I was down there, that the fact that UAB doesn't have 100 years of history is exciting to me. I want to be a part of that history. I enjoy building things."
Ratcliffe earned her B.S. degree from James Madison in 1989 and later earned a Master of Science degree from Virginia Tech in 1995.
