Sucher Tabbed GCAA Second-Team All-American

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Junior Zach Sucher has been tabbed a second-team All-America by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), the organization announced today. It marks the second consecutive year Sucher earned All-America recognition as the Mobile, Ala. native was selected an honorable mention All-American in 2007.
"This is a very deserving award for Zach," UAB head coach Alan Kaufman said. "Zach had one of the best year's in arguably the program's history. We has worked really hard I am pleased he has been recognized by the Division I golf coaches around the country."
Sucher led the Blazers to their first NCAA National Championship appearance since 2002. Entering the event, he had won three consecutive collegiate events, including the Conference USA championships and the NCAA East Regional, and was ranked as the nation's 16th-ranked collegiate golfer by Golfweek.com.
Following his performance at the C-USA Championships, Sucher was selected as the 2008 Conference USA Golfer of the Year. He recorded five top-10 finishes in eight tournaments played during the spring campaign. He finished the year averaging 71.25 strokes per round, which led UAB and Conference USA.
First Team members consisted of Jonas Blixt of Florida State, Indiana's Jorge Campillo, Kevin Chappell of UCLA, Oklahoma State's Rickie Fowler, Rory Hie and Jamie Lovemark of Southern California, Stanford's Sihwan Kim, Webb Simpson of Wake Forest, Georgia State's Joel Sjoholm and Michael Thompson of Alabama.
Joining Sucher on the second team were Chesson Hadley of Georgia Tech, Georgia's Russell Henley, Adam Mitchell and Hudson Swafford, Chattanooga's Jonathan Hodge, Billy Horschel of Florida, Boise State's Troy Merritt, Gareth Shaw of East Tennessee State and Wichita State's Ryan Spears.
Jonas Enander Hedin of Charlotte, Georgia's Harris English, Derek Fathauer of Louisville, UCLA's Erik Flores, Aaron Goldberg of San Diego State, Stanford's Rob Grube, Charlie Holland of Texas, Augusta State's Henrik Norlander, Kevin O'Connell of North Carolina and Virginia Tech's Jurrian van der Vaart made up the third team.
A total of 30 golfers were named honorable mention All-America.
