UAB Falls To Marshall In Overtime, 71-69, At C-USA Tournament

ORLANDO, Fla. ---- The third-seeded UAB women's basketball team fell to the No. 6 Marshall Thundering Herd, 71-69, in overtime here Friday in the Conference USA Tournament quarterfinals. Senior guard/forward Diamond Rogers led the Blazers with 23 points, including 20 in the second half.
UAB concludes the season with a 14-16 record overall. The Blazers finished third in the league this season at 10-6. Marshall, who was sixth in the conference at 6-8, improves to 17-15 on the year and advances to the C-USA Tournament semifinals to face No. 2 seed SMU.
"We played our hearts out today," said UAB head coach Audra Smith. "We were a little short-handed personnel wise with injuries, but every player left everything on the court today."
UAB shot 38.8 percent overall, including 30.8 percent from three-point range and 81.8 percent from the free throw line.
Rogers added six rebounds and a game-high five assists to her 23 points. Junior guard Britney Jones scored 17 points, while also adding six rebounds, four assists and a game-high five steals. Senior center Christon Ingram led UAB in rebounding with seven boards and four points against the Thundering Herd.
Marshall shot 37.7 percent for the game, including 35.7 percent from beyond the arc and 63.6 percent from the charity stripe.
Senior guard Kizzy Hart led Marshall with 18 points and added seven rebounds and four assists. Freshman forward Tynikki Crook tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.
