Blazers Look To Earn Midweek Win Against Troy Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB baseball team returns home Tuesday looking to snap its six-game losing skid when it hosts Troy at 6:30 p.m. at Young Memorial Field. The Blazers enter the week with a record of 6-13 after their recent struggles, while Troy comes in with a mark of 16-7 after starting Sun Belt play 5-1.

UAB first baseman Ryan Keedy and left fielder Phil Bell will be vying to increase their current hit streaks. Keedy is on a career-long 13-game hit streak, while Bell has reached safely in each of the last 10 games.
For the year, Keedy leads the Blazer bats and ranks second in Conference USA with his .461 batting average. He leads the club with 23 RBI and is on pace to set the single-season career doubles record as he currently has a league-leading 12 doubles.
Bell is hitting .333 with a pair of home runs and 15 RBI. The speedy left fielder ranks second on the team with six stolen bases. Shortstop Jonathan Merritt, who is batting .348 over the team's last five games, leads the team with seven thefts on the year.
Left-hander Johnny Volk (0-0) will make his fourth start of the year on the mound against Troy. Volk owns an ERA of 7.90 having allowed 12 earned runs in 13.2 innings pitched.
Troy is expected to start right-hander Mike Powers Tuesday. Powers is 1-0 on the campaign and holds a 5.17 ERA.
The Trojans are led offensively by Beau Brooks and his .380 batting average. He leads the team in RBI with 18 and has hit two home runs.
