UAB Drop Series Finale, Series to UCF

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB softball team dropped the rubber game of its three game series with UCF Sunday at George Ward Park.
The Blazers fall to 14-16 with the loss and 1-5 in Conference USA play. The Knights improve to 20-14 and 3-3 in the league, and also take the series 2-1.
UAB was held to just one hit in the final game of the series with UCF. Leigh Walker singled to the second baseman in the fourth inning. The Blazers were limited to just three base runners all day.
The Knights scored both their runs on three hits in the fifth inning on three hits and two errors. Tiffany Lane singled off the glove of Jennifer Nelson, stole second and moved to third on a pass ball. Lane scored from third on Nelson's error on a throw to first on a bunt single.
UCF made it 2-0 game when Lexi Gresham singled home Breanne Javier.
In the inning, the combination of Holly Krzan and Andrea Rogers helped gun down a run at home. Rogers' throw down to second, trying to catch Gresham stealing, was cut by Krzan who fired home, cutting down Hillary Barrow.
Nelson (8-11) allowed four hits in the losing effort. She struck out nine and walked six.
UCF's Allison Kime received her second win of the series. She fanned eight and walked one.
The Blazers face South Alabama in a Tuesday doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. in Mobile.
