UAB Goes For Third Straight Win At Hawaii Tuesday

HONOLULU, Hawaii - After winning two-out-of-three games at Hawaii-Hilo over the weekend, the UAB baseball team will play at Hawaii on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. HT. The Blazers, 6-7 on the year, will be looking for their first mid-week victory of the season and first three-game winning streak of the season when they take the field against the Rainbows Tuesday night.
Hawaii enters the mid-week series with a record of 5-9 after getting swept at home by 10th-ranked Long Beach State this past weekend.
UAB will start left-hander Johnny Volk (0-0) on Tuesday and right-hander Mitch Kloskowski (2-0) on Wednesday.
Volk has a 9.00 ERA over his two starts this season. Kloskowski, who pitched the final inning against Hawaii-Hilo on Sunday, has a 1.12 ERA with 14 strikeouts and just one walk this season. Kloskowski has won both of his starts this season against Ball State and Brown.
First baseman Ryan Keedy continues to pace the Blazers offensively, upping his batting average to .460 after going 8-for-16 last week. He leads the club in RBI with 14, while also topping the club in doubles with eight.
Left fielder Phil Bell is batting .327 with 12 RBI and two home runs, both of which came last week. Third baseman Luke Stewart, who leads the team in walks with 14, is hitting .343 for the year.
Hawaii will start Josh Slaats (0-1) on Tuesday. Slaats owns a 6.43 ERA having made one start and appeared in a total of three games this season. Opponents are hitting .387 against the right-hander.
The Rainbows have not announced their Wednesday starter. Losers of six straight, the Rainbows are led offensively by outfielder Brandon Haislet and his .380 batting average. Infielder Vinny Catricala is hitting .327 with 13 RBI and three home runs.
