UAB Travels To Play At UCF Thursday, Southern Miss Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team will hit the road for a pair of Conference USA road games at UCF and Southern Miss. The Blazers will take on the UCF Knights on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. ET at the UCF Arena.
UAB will then travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss on Saturday. Tip-off will be at 5:00 p.m. CT at the Reed Green Coliseum.
Thursday's contest will mark the 10th meeting between the two programs, with UAB holding an 8-1 advantage in the all-time series. The Blazers topped the Knights twice last season, including a 66-55 win in Orlando and a 58-44 victory in Birmingham. The only time that UCF has gained a win over UAB was on Jan. 19, 1989 in Orlando, 89-82.
UAB has an overall record of 10-11 and a 6-3 mark in Conference USA that puts the Blazers in third place in the league standings. UAB is looking to rebound from an 80-76 overtime loss to Houston last Sunday at home.
The Blazers are led by senior guard/forward Diamond Rogers with a league-leading 18.0 ppg, which ranks 32nd in the nation. Rogers is also pacing UAB in rebounds (8.3 rpg) and assists (3.4 apg).
Senior guard Crystal McFadden is adding 13.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg and 2.0 apg for the Blazers. Junior guard Britney Jones is contributing 11.3 ppg and is leading the team in steals with 2.5 takeaways per outing.
UCF is 8-13 overall and 1-7 in conference games. Most recently, the Knights dropped an 80-66 home game to East Carolina last Saturday.
Tia Lewis is the leader for the Knights, averaging a double-double with 12.8 ppg and 11.9 rpg while shooting a team-best 55.7 percent from the field. Emma Cannon is scoring 11.2 ppg and grabbing 9.3 rpg, while Marshay White has 11.0 ppg and a team-high 3.1 apg.
Saturday will mark the 43rd meeting between UAB and Southern Miss on the hardwood. Southern Miss leads the all-time series, 28-14, including a pair of wins over the Blazers a season ago.
Pauline Love leads Southern Miss by averaging a double-double with 16.6 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. Kendra Reed is putting up 11.0 ppg, while Stephanie Helgeson is scoring 10.7 ppg and has a team-best 2.3 bpg.
