UAB Hosts SMU For "Think Pink" Game Sunday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team will host the SMU Mustangs Sunday at 2:00 p.m. CT in a battle of two teams that are tied for third place in Conference USA at 8-3. Sunday's game will also serve as "Think Pink" day at Bartow Arena, an effort by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, on campuses and in the community.
UAB and SMU will tangle for the fourth time in series history, with the Blazers holding a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series.
The Blazers enter Sunday with a 12-12 overall record and an 8-3 mark in C-USA. UAB is coming off a 78-74 double overtime win at Tulsa this past Thursday.
UAB is paced by senior guard/forward Diamond Rogers, who leads the Blazers in points (17.9 ppg), rebounds (8.8 rpg), assists (3.5 apg) and blocks (15). Rogers' 17.9 ppg is first in the league and 41st in the nation. In addition, Rogers is averaging a double-double in conference games with 18.7 ppg and 10.2 rpg.
Senior guard Crystal McFadden is adding 13.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg and 2.1 apg for the Blazers, while junior guard Britney Jones is scoring 11.4 ppg and leads the squad with 2.6 spg.
SMU has an overall record of 18-6, including 8-3 in C-USA. The Mustangs are on a four-game win streak and most recently topped Memphis, 93-49, last Thursday.
Senior center Janielle Dodds leads SMU with 14.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest. Sophomore forward Delisha Wills is contributing 13.0 ppg and 5.6 rpg to the Mustangs' efforts.
All fans are encouraged to wear pink for Sunday's game in support of "Think Pink" day at Bartow Arerna. Wearing pink will get you $1.00 admission into the game.
In addition, the Alabama Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the Alabama Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation will both be in attendance and will be giving away free car tags. To sign up for a free Breast Cancer Awareness car tag at the "Think Pink" game, fans will need to bring your vehicle's VIN number to the game. The tags will fund vital research at UAB Hospital.
