UAB vs. Central Michigan Game Notes
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team will hit the road for a Saturday game versus the Central Michigan Chippewas in Mount Pleasant, Mich. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET in Rose Arena.
The Blazers (2-5) will look to rebound from a heartbreaking 77-75 loss to Florida this past Wednesday. UAB is 1-3 in games away from Bartow Arena, with its lone win away from home coming over McNeese State at a neutral site in the Samford Classic.
Senior guard Britney Jones leads the way for UAB with 17.0 ppg, including a career-high 28 points in her latest outing against Florida. Jones also adds 3.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.9 steals per game for the Blazers.
Sophomore guard Amanda Peterson is UAB's top three-point threat, sinking 20 treys thus far this season and averaging 11.7 points per contest. Junior guard Fatiha Salaam is contributing 11.3 ppg on 43.5 percent shooting for the Blazers.
Central Michigan, a member of the Mid-American Conference, enters the game with a 4-2 record. The Chippewas won their last game, 84-72, over Boston in the Buckeye Classic on Nov. 30.
Central Michigan has four players averaging double figures, led by Britni Houghton with 19.7 ppg on 51.2 percent shooting. Brandie Baker is scoring 12.3 ppg and Angel Chan is chipping in 12.0 ppg for the Chippewas. Kaihla Szunko is leading the squad on the boards with 7.3 rpg, while also adding 11.2 ppg.
Saturday will mark the second meeting between UAB and Central Michigan on the hardwood. The only previous meeting resulted in a 59-44 Blazer victory on Dec. 6, 2002 in the Mildred and Roger L. White Invitational, hosted by Northwestern.
