Women's Basketball Falls To Georgia, 73-49

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Georgia had four players score in double figures en route to a 73-49 win over the UAB women's basketball team on Saturday evening at Bartow Arena. Danielle Taylor paced Georgia with 14 points, while Amanda Peterson led UAB in scoring with a game-high 17 points.
UAB's record moved to 4-7 overall, while Georgia improved its record to 8-3.
UAB and Georgia went back-and-forth to begin the game, with the Blazers holding a four-point lead, 13-9, at the 14:16 mark. The lead changed hands multiple times during the opening period before the Lady Bulldogs went on a 14-2 run in the final four minutes of the game to give them a 12-point lead at the half, 39-27.
The Blazers cut Georgia's lead to six, 43-37, with 14:28 left in the game. The Lady Bulldogs outscored UAB 29-6 over the next nine minutes to go up by 23, 66-43, with 5:12 remaining on the clock. Georgia held on the win the game by a count of 73-49.
"We hung with them for a while, but then we started getting sloppy out there," said UAB head coach Audra Smith. "Once we started making mistakes, Georgia took full advantage of that and capitalized on our miscues."
UAB shots 31.4 percent for the game, including 34.6 percent in the first half and 28.0 percent in the second half. The Blazers hit just 3-of-19 (15.8 percent) from beyond the arc, but sank 14-of-19 (73.7 percent) from the charity stripe.
Peterson led all players with 17 points and five rebounds for the Blazers. Peterson went 5-of-14 overall, including 3-of-10 from three-point range.
Junior forward Tamika Dukes contributed 16 points to UAB's total on 5-of-6 shooting and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Dukes also added four rebounds on the night.
Georgia shot 51.7 percent for the game, including 58.3 percent in the second half. The Lady Bulldogs made 50.0 percent (4-of-8) of their three pointers and 58.3 percent (7-of-12) of their free throws.
Taylor's 14 points led a quartet of Lady Bulldogs in double figures. Taylor went 6-of-11 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the free throw line.
Ashley Houts was just shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine assists for Georgia. Angela Puleo and Angel Robinson chipped in 11 points each, while Robinson grabbed a game-high 12 boards.
UAB's next outing will be on Dec. 29 when it hosts Alabama A&M. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at Bartow Arena.
