UAB's Swayze Waters Picks Up C-USA Honor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB kicker Swayze Waters has been named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week after booting five field goals in the Blazers' 15-0 victory at UCF Saturday.
Waters, a senior from Jackson, Miss., was successful on all five of his three-point tries as UAB finished its 2008 season on a winning note in Orlando. He accounted for all of the game's points as the Blazers recorded their first shutout of a conference opponent in its 10-year history as a C-USA football member.
Waters hit from distances of 40, 43, 22, 36 and 28 yards against the Knights as he improved his season numbers to 19-of-24 field goals and an accuracy mark of 79.2 percent, tops among C-USA kickers.
Waters finished his Blazer career with 50 field goals in 64 attempts for a 78.1 percentage.
His 50 field goals rank No. 8 all-time in Conference USA while his 78.1 accuracy mark is sixth-best in league history.
Waters also went over the 200-point mark for his career in the game vs. the Knights, finishing with 202.
The C-USA Player of the Week honor for Waters was his second of the season and third such accolade of his career.
