BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team will host the No. 15 Auburn Tigers Wednesday evening at Bartow Arena. The 31st meeting between the two programs on the hardwood will tip off at 7 p.m. CT.
UAB (1-2) returns home after a pair of road games last week. The Blazers will look to rebound from losses at South Alabama (Nov. 17) and Charlotte (Nov. 21). UAB's lone home game of the season thus far resulted in a 73-58 win over Stetson on Nov. 14 to kick off the season.
Senior guard Britney Jones is leading UAB's efforts with 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals per outing. Jones has scored in double figures in all three games this season and has 57 double-digit scoring games for her career.
Making a big splash in just her first season suiting up for the Green & Gold is junior forward Tamika Dukes. Dukes, a junior college transfer, is pacing the Blazers on the boards with 9.3 rpg, while also adding 13.3 ppg. She was honored as Conference USA's Rookie of the Week this past Monday after averaging 12.5 points and 10 rebounds per contest during UAB's two road games last week.
In addition, the Blazers have a pair of guards that are also chipping in double figure scoring efforts in sophomore Amanda Peterson and junior Fatiha Salaam. Peterson is scoring 12.0 ppg and grabbing 6.7 rpg and Salaam is adding 10.7 ppg and 2.3 rpg.
Auburn is boasting a perfect 4-0 record that includes its most-recent victory over then-No. 17 Ohio State, 87-80, in overtime this past Sunday. The Tigers are ranked No. 15 in the latest AP poll released on Monday.
Senior guard/forward DeWanna Bonner, a two-time first-team All-Southeastern Conference honoree and honorable mention All-American a season ago, leads Auburn with 20.5 ppg and 8.3 rpg, while also registering a team-high six blocks on the year.
Sophomore guard Alli Smalley, a Birmingham native, is knocking down 39.3 percent of her shots from beyond the arc and averaging 16.8 points per contest. Senior guard Sherrell Hobbs is contributing 14.5 points and 6.8 boards per game.
Wednesday will mark the 31st meeting between UAB and Auburn on the court, with the Tigers holding a 26-4 advantage in the all-time series. Auburn won the previous meeting, 93-66, last season in Auburn.
