BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team practiced for approximately two hours on Tuesday afternoon to get ready for its season finale at UCF on Saturday.
UAB (3-8, 2-5 C-USA) is dealing with a slightly different week with the Thanksgiving holiday falling on Thursday. UAB head coach Neil Callaway said they are trying to keep this week as normal as possible and he was happy with today's efforts.
"Today was a good day," said Callaway. "It was our last Tuesday practice and it was good. We are trying to keep things as normal as we can this week.
"Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be the same as usual. On Thanksgiving, we will go early on Thursday morning so the players can have time with their families the rest of the day."
After going back and looking more closely at film on UCF (4-7, 3-4 C-USA), Callaway is impressed with the Knights' talent and style of play, especially on special teams.
"I think UCF does an excellent job on special teams," said Callaway. "Their punt and punt return units do an excellent job. We have some ideas of what we are going to do against their special teams.
"They're also a very good defensive football team. They are not the same style as East Carolina, but they are equally as good. Offensively, they're similar to East Carolina, but they are a better running football team. They have bigger, more physical running backs. It's going to be a challenge for us."
UAB and UCF will kick off on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at the Bright House Networks Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
Saturday's game will be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network. It can be heard locally on WWMM 100.5 FM radio in Birmingham.
