BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB women's basketball player Tamika Dukes has been named Conference USA's Rookie of the Week after averaging 12.5 points and 10 rebounds per game for the Blazers last week. This marks the first weekly league honor of Dukes' career.
"We are proud of Tamika for receiving this honor," said UAB head coach Audra Smith. "She has been playing well for us, playing a large role on both the offensive and defensive ends. We are confident she will continue her stellar play throughout the season."
Dukes, a 6-0 junior college transfer, averaged a double-double during UAB's two road games last week.
The Birmingham, Ala. native recorded her first double-digit rebounding game with 11 boards, including five offensive boards, in the Blazers' loss to South Alabama last Monday. She also tallied nine points and tied for the team-high with three assists against the Jaguars.
In UAB's loss at Charlotte this past Friday, Dukes recorded a career-best 16 points to go along with nine rebounds and one assist.
The UAB women's basketball team will be in action on Wednesday when it hosts in-state foe Auburn. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at Bartow Arena.
