TROY, Ala. (AP) -Paul Delaney III scored 24 points and Lawrence Kinnard added 22 points and 13 rebounds to help Alabama-Birmingham beat Troy 87-66 in the season opener for both teams Saturday.
Terrence Roderick chipped in 17 points and five steals for the Blazers.
UAB led by just two points at halftime, 36-34, then outscored Troy 51-32 in the second half. Roderick's dunk with 8:24 remaining gave UAB its biggest lead at 73-49. Troy cut the margin to 15 about four minutes later, but Kinnard quickly answered with his fourth 3-pointer of the game.
Reserve Chris Leggett was the only Trojans player to score in double figures with 12 points. Travis Lee and Mario Telfair had nine apiece.
Both teams attempted 70 field goals, but the Blazers made 31 of their shots while the Trojans were successful on only 24 for a cold-shooting 34.3 percent.
