Charles DiBella Signs With UAB Baseball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Charles DiBella, an outfielder from Houston High School in Germantown, Tenn., has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend UAB and compete for the Blazer baseball program.
"We are thrilled to announce that Charles DiBella has joined our baseball family," UAB head coach Brian Shoop said. "He is that `Triple Crown' young man that we are trying to sign -- excellent in all areas of his life.
"In the classroom, Charles has excelled and will be another great student for UAB. Off the field, Charles is first class in every way and will be a great role model for all the kids who watch us play. On the field, we graduated three outfielders, so we obviously needed some impact players in the outfield. He is a good runner who will defend the field, and he is a left-handed hitter who will fit well at Young Memorial Field."
In 2008, DiBella logged a .333 batting average with 30 RBI during his junior season. He scored 37 runs in 37 games while helping Houston to a record of 20-18. DiBella improved upon those numbers in the postseason, hitting .519 with nine RBI in eight games as he guided his team to a district championship.
DiBella trained during the summer with the Mississippi Prospects and the East Coast Grays, playing in tournaments across the country from Georgia and Florida to New York. He was also selected to represent the state of Tennessee in the Junior Sunbelt Classic in Oklahoma.
"Charles has played at the highest level of high school baseball at Houston High School in the Memphis area, coached by Lane McCarter," Shoop said. "He has also played in top flight tournaments all summer and fall for the Mississippi Prospects, coached by Josh Buford and Joe Caruso, and the East Coast Grays, coached by Chris Snusz.
"Playing against the best competition in the country has prepared Charles to play in Conference USA hopefully early in his college career."
DiBella is the son of Charles and Diana DiBella.
