UAB Hosts Memphis Thursday In Final Regular Season Game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team will play its final regularseason contest on Thursday evening when it hosts the Memphis Tigers at 7 p.m. CT at West Campus Field. The Blazers, who have already clinched a spot in the Conference USA Tournament, will look to continue their six game undefeated streak (4-0-2).
Thursday will mark the 15th meeting between the two programs, with UAB holding a 8-5-1 lead in the all-time series with Memphis. However, the Tigers have claimed victory in three of the last four matches with the Blazers.
UAB will enter Thursday night's contest with a 7-9-2 overall record and 5-3-2 mark in league games.
The Blazers are led by a trio of freshman in forward Tiffini Turpin, midfielder Carolyn Polcari and midfielder/forward Laura McCalla. Turpin has scored a team-best seven goals this season, followed by Polcari and McCalla with six each.
In conference games only, Turpin and Polcari are pacing the league with six goals. McCalla is tied for third with five goals in league contests.
Memphis is in second place in the conference at the moment with an overall record of 11-4-2 that includes a 7-2-1 mark in the league.
Vendula Strnadova and Lizzy Simonin have scored a team-high seven goals apiece this season, followed by Kylie Hayes, who has found the back of the net on five occasions for the Tigers.
UAB and Memphis will kick off at 7 p.m. CT Thursday at West Campus Field. Prior to the game, the Blazers will honor their 2008 senior class, Nadine Liverpool and Caitlin Marple, for their contributions to the program over the past four years.
In addition to Senior Day, the game will also serve as "Kick or Treat" with the Blazers. Children dressed in costume, or as their favorite soccer player, will receive free admission and candy will be given out during the match.
