UAB Hosts ECU Friday, Travels To Marshall Sunday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team has a split weekend, beginning with hosting Conference USA leader East Carolina Friday at West Campus Field. The Blazers will then play a Sunday match at Marshall.
UAB has an overall record of 6-9-1 and a conference record of 4-3-1 entering the weekend. The Blazers have won three of their last four matches, including most recently a 2-1 win at SMU last Sunday.
Freshman forward Tiffini Turpin is pacing the Blazers with six goals, followed by freshman midfielder Carolyn Polcari and freshman forward Laura McCalla with five goals apiece. Junior forward Danya Barsalona has added four goals this season.
East Carolina is sporting an overall record of 11-3-2, including a 6-0-2 mark in C-USA that puts the Pirates in first place in the league and has already clinched them a berth in the conference tournament. ECU is most-recently coming off a 2-1 win at UTEP last Sunday.
East Carolina is led by Blair Heffner with 11 points this season, including four goals and three assists. Alexis Foltz is tied with Heffner for a team-best four goals. Amanda Malkiewicz and Savanna Russo have a team-high five assists each for the Pirates.
Marshall has a record of 5-7-4 this year, including a 3-5 mark in league games. Last weekend, the Thundering Herd dropped a pair of road games at UTEP and Colorado College.
Erika Duncan has scored eight goals this season, and added three assists, to lead Marshall with 19 points. Angela DeSumma has racked up a team-best 10 assists for the Thundering Herd.
UAB and East Carolina will kick off at 7 p.m. CT Friday at West Campus Field. The game will serve as Hospital Employee Night with the Blazers. All hospital employees can show their ID badge for a $2 ticket into the game. In addition, free food will be available to the first 100 UAB students.
Sunday's match at Marshall will begin at 1 p.m. ET at Sam Hood Field in Huntington, W. Va.
