BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team continued its shorter practice sessions this week with a practice that lasted just over an hour on Wednesday. The Blazers are enjoying a lighter week of practice due to a bye week. UAB's next game will be at Southern Miss on Nov. 1.
UAB head coach Neil Callaway thought that Wednesday's practice could be compared to a usual Thursday practice. Despite the lighter practice schedule this week, Callaway was pleased with the way his team has looked.
"Today was like a typical Thursday practice," said Callaway. "It was good. It had the tempo of a Thursday, and we will do the same thing tomorrow."
The Blazers began to input their game plan for Southern Miss, which is more than a week away. Despite Wednesday being the first day for the team to concentrate on Southern Miss, the staff has been hard at work preparing for the Golden Eagles.
"Today was the first day that we've worked on Southern Miss," said Callaway. "Hopefully, there will be some carry over to next week's practices in terms of schemes and what they are trying to do.
"We have a lot done on Southern Miss as a staff. We've got about 80 percent in, but that depends on what changes we see when they play Memphis this weekend. We'll look at the Memphis game Sunday and see if they did anything different."
The Blazers and Golden Eagles will kickoff at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Carlisle-Faulkner Stadium at Faulkner Field. The game will be televised live on CSS.
The UAB vs. Southern Miss contest will also be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network, WWMM 100.5 FM radio.
