BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB senior Zack Sucher was named as one of the Top 10 male players, according to GolfWorld magazine, during the 2008-09 season. GolfWorld lists Sucher as No. 6 on the rankings of top collegiate golfers this season.
During the 2007-08 season, Sucher led the Blazers to the NCAA Championships after earning the medalist honors at the 2008 Conference USA Championship and tying for first in the 2008 NCAA East Regional. As a result, Sucher led the Blazers to the program's first-ever C-USA men's golf title, and a trip to the NCAA Nationals for only the third time in school history.
It is not surprising that Sucher has been given this honor, considering the season he had in 2007-08. The two-time All-American captured five tournament titles last season, including three consecutive events (Bank of America Intercollegiate, C-USA Championship and NCAA East Regional). During the East Regional, Sucher recorded his career-low round, carding a 62 in the second round, which set a course record. That tournament also gave him his career-best 54-hole score of 200.
So far this year, Sucher has competed strongly and is coming off a first-place finish at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate on Sept. 22-23. As a direct result of the victory, Sucher was named C-USA Golfer of the Week for the fifth time in his career.
During his four years at UAB, Sucher has competed in 37 tournaments, earned six victories, 10 top-10 finishes and has a career average of 72.96.
Sucher and the Blazers next compete in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on Oct. 13-14.
