BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB junior Zach Sucher continues his outstanding play over the summer, as he completed a wire-to-wire victory at the Cardinal Amateur in North Carolina over the weekend. Along with this most recent title, Sucher recently qualified for the 107th U.S. Amateur Championship at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif. on Aug. 20-26.
Sucher finished at 3-under 207, two shots ahead of Patrick Reed (67). Reed, who will play for Georgia in fall 2008, is No. 8 in the Golfweek/Titleist Junior Rankings.
2007 North Carolina state amateur champion Jerry Richardson (75-71-66), University of Virginia golfer Will Collins (73-72-67) and Michigan's Tim Schaetzel (72-68-73) finished third at 2 over par 212.
Sucher was an honorable mention All-American last year for UAB after finishing fourth at the NCAA Division I Men's Championship, which he qualified for as an individual.
