UAB is now 17-22 on the year, just two wins shy of matching last season's win total. JSU falls to 21-17 with the loss.
Colburn (3-1) got the win after throwing five complete innings in which he allowed just one hit and one run. Gamecock starter, righty Ben Tootle, was impressive in his four innings of shutout baseball, however Justin King relieved him to start the fifth and gave up four earned runs in a third of an inning to get the loss and fall to 1-1 on the campaign.
Alongside Bell with standout offensive days was junior catcher Ben Shelley who was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while senior third baseman Ryne Lovdahl was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
The Gamecocks were led by third baseman Jake Ball and his two RBI on a 1-for-4 performance at the plate.
After both starters looked sharp in the early going, but UAB blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth, getting eight runs on just three hits. The biggest blow of the inning came from Shelley who drove in two runs on a single to right field.
The Gamecocks scored four in the sixth to close the gap, however five Blazer runs in the seventh and two in the eighth led to a 15-5 triumph.
The Blazers will resume Conference USA play this weekend when they travel to play Southern Miss for a three-game series beginning Friday at 7 p.m.
