UAB Takes Game One of Doubleheader with UCF, 2-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB Blazers won game one of its Saturday doubleheader against UCF, 2-1, thanks to a joint pitching effort from freshman left-hander Shay Crawford and junior right-hander Brandon Wallace who combined to allow just one run and allow two walks all afternoon at Young Memorial Field. The Blazers improve to 14-15 (2-0 C-USA) with the win, while UCF is now 16-15 (0-4 C-USA).
Senior outfielder Levi Patmon was the only Blazer to record multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored, while senior outfielder J.R. Bond was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore outfielder Brint Hardy was 1-for-3 with an RBI, driving in the game winner.
Crawford (3-1) earned the win after going 6.0 innings in his start for the Blazers, striking out two and allowing just one run. Wallace (1) earned the save after throwing three highly effective innings in which he allowed just four hits and no runs, issuing no walks.
UCF center fielder Tyson Auer led UCF with two hits and an RBI that came on a single in the first inning that gave UCF the early lead.
The Golden Knights' Jaager Good (3-3) was tabbed with the loss despite throwing 7.0 sharp innings in which he allowing just five hits and two runs, while striking out four.
After UCF took the early lead, UAB quickly responded in the bottom half of the first as Bond singled home Patmon who led the inning off the inning with a single.
UAB scored the go-ahead game-winning run in the fourth as Hardy doubled home senior catcher Danny Sawyer to take the 2-1 lead.
The Blazers and Golden Knights close out the series in game two of the Saturday doubleheader at Young Memorial Field at approximately 4:30 p.m.
