Women's Basketball Hosts Charlotte In Home Opener Wednesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After playing eight straight games on the road to begin the season, the UAB women's basketball team will return home to host Charlotte in its 2007-08 home opener Wednesday. The Blazers and the 49ers will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. CT at Bartow Arena.
Wednesday's contest will mark the 26th meeting between the two programs, with UAB holding a slight 13-12 edge in the series. However, Charlotte has won the previous four meetings, including the most-recent 62-56 win over the Blazers in 2005.
The Blazers enter the game with a 2-6 record and are looking to get back on the winning track after dropping their last three. UAB's most recent outing was a 77-71 loss at Virginia Tech this past Sunday.
Leading the way for UAB is senior guard/forward Diamond Rogers with 19.0 ppg, which also is tops in Conference USA. Along with points, Rogers is also adding team-best numbers in rebounds and assists with 6.8 boards and 3.6 dishes per game.
Also making a statement during her senior campaign is guard Crystal McFadden with 14.1 ppg and 4.8 rpg. The third Blazer that is scoring in double figures is junior guard Britney Jones with 12.0 ppg, while also leading the team and ranking second in the league in steals with 3.1 per outing.
Charlotte comes into the contest with a 3-6 overall record, with its last game resulting in an 80-66 loss to Minnesota last Sunday.
The 49ers have a pair scoring in double-digits this season, led by junior center Danielle Burgin with 13.7 ppg and a team-high 9.4 rpg. Senior guard Sabrina Gregory is adding 10.6 ppg and leading the team in assists with 4.2 per game.
