BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team conducted a physical, 19-period practice Tuesday afternoon as it continued to work towards its final home game of the season against UCF on Saturday at Legion Field.
UAB head coach Neil Callaway told the media following practice that he was proud of his team's effort Tuesday.
"It was a good day today, we practiced with a lot of enthusiasm and practiced hard. I tip my hat to the guys - they're working hard. We have to keep working hard and getting better." he said.
UAB's defensive game plan will be key towards containing UCF running back Kevin Smith who has run for 1,448 yards this season in addition to hauling in 194 yards receiving. Smith has gone over 100 yards rushing in eight of the Knights' nine games this season.
"Their running back, Kevin, makes their offense go," Callaway said. "They run the ball a lot and do play-action to try to beat you with a big play. Their quarterback (Kyle Israel) does a good job of running their system."
Saturday will be Military Appreciation Day at Legion Field. Fans with an valid military ID will receive free admission into the game.
The game will be aired nationally by CSTV at 6:30 p.m.
Radio coverage of the game can be heard on the Blazers' ISP Sports Network flagship station WUHT 107.7 FM. The broadcast can also be heard on affiliates WIQR 1410 AM in Montgomery, WTRB 98.3 FM in Talladega and WACT 1420 AM in Tuscaloosa.
